Hot spots on flies work. Although we can't say exactly why they work, our experience is that hot spots illicit a response from actively feeding fish as well as fish that might not be lined up in the buffet line. There are numerous ways to incorporate hot spots, including beads, tags, bright rears, and bright collars. The Blowtorch is a classic jigged tag nymph from the mind of Mr Olsen. There are several recently released materials that make this top producing nymph even easier to tie.
