The stonefly hatch is as exciting for fishermen as it is for fish. Beginning in March, these bugs are high floating, highly visible meals for trout and exciting to throw! They represent a big meal for trout. While Stoneflies (Plecoptera) can be found in many rivers in the U.S., they are most abundant in Western rivers. These are generally large bugs and fish like big meals! The large Pteronarcyida (Pteronarcys) or Salmonfly begin their hatch in early May, with the hatch winding down in June. Golden Stoneflies (Perlidae or Perlid) begin hatching in May and the hatch extends intermittently through September. Little Golden Stoneflies (Chloroperlidae) hatch June - September DiscountFlies Stoneflies Are Tied on Gamakatsu, Tiemco or Daiichi Hooks, By The Worlds Finest Fly Tier's.
