Western March Browns (Rhithrogena) generally begin their hatch before spring runoff, and can provide excellent early season dry fly fishing. Sizes are #12-16. Eastern March Browns (Maccaffertium) begin hatching in May. Body color is is tan to brown with grey/brown wings. The Spinner Fall is an important part of this hatch. Quill Gordon (Epeorus) mayflies, also called Little Maryatts, are found in many rivers across the U.S. Hatches can begin as early as April, and end as late as September. Body color ranges from grey to brown, and wing color is grey. Mahogany Dun, aka Blue Quill (Paraleptophlebia or Paraleps) mayfly ranges in size from #14 - #18, & hatch in many rivers in the U.S. They begin their emergence in early spring, and continue hatching through fall. Body color is a shade of brown with grey wings. Other names for this mayfly include: blue dun, iron blue dun, red quill and black quill.
