This is a variation of the wildly successful Gregg’s Fur Carp Nymph – Hare’s Ear. We put the following twists on this ringer:
- Tied on a jig style hook
- Heavy eyes
- Deer Ear dubbing
- Hot spot ribbing and head
Some fly pattern variations are twists that result from experience on a specific stretch of water. In other instances, like this one, a variation is simply a way to incorporate new materials (usually because we’ve run short of a material or two). This variation highlights a few new materials. We also show how a dubbing loop made with wire, rather than thread, can be advantageous when tying this fly.
