The Walt’s Worm is a versatile fly. The same fly – tied the exact same way – can be used to imitate numerous types of bugs and stages of insect activity. Tied in a size 8, this could be a cranefly larva or a stonefly. In a size 18, this could be a cased caddis or an emerging caddis. In a size 22, a mayfly. The Swiss Army Knife of flies! The original recipe call for a jig hook, but we show it on our favorite 200R style nymph hook, the Firehole 718. We also show a new dubbing that we really like….Deer Ear. This is a mix of very soft underfur and longer stiff fibers…a perfect mix of bugginess and still easy to dub.
