The WD stands for wood duck, which is used to tie the tail of this very successful nymph. The WD40 midge larva nymph pattern is one of the most effective patterns we have fished, and is also effective at imitating baetis nymph.

The WD-40 is very effective at imitating a midge larva. The WD50 is a variation on this popular trout fly nymph, which features a flashback wingcase which appears to be bursting out, emerging from the nymphal shuck.

Trout gorge themselves on these little translucent shrimp. Tailwaters are typically loaded with these and the closer you get to the dam, the more you'll find trout feeding with wreckless abandon. Many mysis patterns are similar, and for good reason. This pattern, however, is unique; the body is made of alternating white and silver wire.

Too often, Stonefly patterns become too fat and disproportionate by adding lead wire underbodies. This multi wired body offers some segmentation using two color wires wrapped together. Fish this pattern below an indicator with Fluorocarbon or in tandem with a Prince Nymph.
