Dubbing

Rabbit fur on the hide is one of the best materials to use on streamers and sub-surface flies. PH zonker strips come in two flavors:

Specially designed with a mix of natural and synthetic materials Dirty Bug Yarn was designed resulting from research of different dubbings when it was realized that many traditional dubbings were often ‘single color’ dubbings. In reality, if you look at a fly or nymph - like a baetis nymph - it may be olive in color but it is usually a mix of colors; nature is not monochromatic or single color. Using this insight, we made blends of colors and Dirty Bug Yarn was born. Essential dubbing colors and blends suitable for specific families of flies such as caddis have also been created to give tyers the very best options.

For people who are used to doing their own dubbing blends, working with Dirty Bug Yarn means you no longer have to worry about inconsistency or forgetting how you mixed your last blend! Tying with Dirty Bug Yarn means you can rely on a consistent blend ongoing. 

Its worth noting that Dirty Bug Yarn does trap air and it will also take floatant. And its lovely if you taper it to a point.

These dubbing blends are then wonven into a rope and spooled.  As a result, these ready made yarns can simply be tied and wound onto a hook. Try twisting the rope into a tight cord for natural segmentation!  Developed twin strands Dirty Bug Yarn can be used straight off the spool for larger flies or split into single strands for smaller flies. 

There are 5m / 5.4 yards (approx ) per spool.

Kapok Dubbing is half the thickness of superfine dubbing! Some tyers refer to it as ‘instant moles fur’ or ‘moles fur in different colors’ as its rather similar with a very short fiber. It is absolutely ideal for tiny driy flies and great for nymphs. It provides perfect definition on small flies instead of an ‘explosion’ of bulky traditional dubbing on a small hook.  The ultrafine thiness allows for precise tapers (and lots of forgiveness for the tyer!).  We love this dubbing for small dries and RS2s.  We also like the colors for small hot spot colors on Jig Patterns.  

Kapok (Ceiba pentandra) is a natural fiber, it has been available for many years growing throughout the tropics. It is a moisture-resistant, quick drying, resilient, and buoyant fiber and weighs only one-eighth as much as cotton -- great for dry flies! Kapok has historically been used in life jackets and life boats, supporting as much as 30 times its own weight in water.

Traditionally Kapok is very difficult to dye however the team at Semperfli have been working with computer based dying machinery which has enabled it to bulk dye Kapok Dubbing with repeatable colors every time. 

Individual Kapok Dubbing Adams fibres are on average 1.8cm/0.7”, with diameters of 30 to 36 micrometres (a micrometre is about 0.00004 inch) making it finer than even the smallest superfine dubbing, indeed HALF the thickness of superfine dubbings on the market but with its unique extreme buoyancy.

Raven and Wolf Chubb Dub is a new product that combines ultra fine, high sparkle tinsel Ice Dubbing and dry fly dubbing.  The benefits are twofold:

The Hot Pink and Light Orange are great options for hot spots on flies like a Frenchie.

Sparkle Dubbing is a vibrant sparkling dubbing designed to reflect light which glints through this superb dubbing. Sparkle Dubbing is synthetic and has a sheen that reflects light and adds lustre and sparkle to dubbing.  It is a longer fibre that you can blend with other dubbings. After all, as anglers we have all send natural bugs glisten and sparkle in the sunlight. Designed to give that same glisten that you get from natural insects or as an attractor or hot spot to trigger attacks from the predatory fish you are hunting.

Sparkle Dubbing has been pre cut and blended into approximately 2” / 50mm lengths for easy handling when dubbing. Sparkle Dubbing is 35 microns diameter. Sparkle Dubbing Black is the perfect dubbing to put hot spots on nymphs, thoraxes or bodies on your flies.
