The Maccaffertium vicarium mayfly begins hatching when the water temperature hits about 42 degrees Fahrenheit, which is usually March! The hatch is usually in the afternoon, and a spinner fall occurs later on that day. The March Brown fly pattern imitates this adult mayfly very well. These are generally big mayflies, which cause trout to feed with "reckless abandon", with big splashes being the typical bite.
I fished the west branch of the Delaware last spring and had to pick up a few March Browns at the guide shop, since that was the hatch. They were 3.99 apiece. I'm planning a return trip in May, and bought 12 of yours at a far better price (in different sizes), and these are at least as good. I love ordering from discount flies in January--it makes the start of trout season in the northeast seem imaginable.

The march browns were exactly what I have been looking for and at the unbeatable price. I will be back for others!
