There are over 600 mayfly nymph species, of which most are brown, and very similar in appearance to the Pheasant Tail Nymph.
Originally tied by Frank Sawyer, this pattern has been tweaked over the years, and continues to catch amazing numbers of fish. Keep a good selection of this trout fly.
The Beadhead Flashback Pheasant Tail is best fished as an emerger and matches the Hatch of the following Mayflies:
- Baetis
- Dark Green Drake
- Flav or Lesser Green Drake
- Green Drake - Western
- Green Drake - Eastern
- Grey Drake
- Hendrickson
- Pale Morning Dun
- Pink Lady or Slate Brown Nymph
- Quill Gordon
- Red Quill
- Sulphur Dun
- White Winged Sulfur Dun

As with many proven patterns, the RS2 also was given an upgrade with the addition of the flash back. In this case the wing bud present on the original is replaced with woven Mylar sparkle wing. The Jujubaetis Emerger Flashback has an eye catching (both fish and fisherman) segmentation, slim profile, and flash along the top to simulate an emerging nymph. This is a great choice to use during a Baetis Hatch.

Mayfly Emerger - Mercury RS2 Flashback

The mercury RS2 is tied with a small highly reflective bead, which gives the appearance of a gas bubble, used by the natural insect to float to the surface. This is a very effective baetis or midge emerger pattern. The mylar flashback looks like the insect is starting to open its nymphal shuck.
