Soft Hackle Flies imitate both Nymphs and Emergers. They are called "Soft Hackle" because they are tied with a soft, webby feather, wound around the shank of the hook. This feather is used to imitate the legs or the wings of a mayflies, caddisflies or midges...and that it does! The soft barbules of the feather move in the water current, appearing like the legs of a struggling bug!
Soft Hackle Flies can be dead drifted or swung. Both presentations of a Soft Hackle Fly can be very effective. |
