As one of the most recognized fly patterns, the Hare's ear nymph has a history with every fly angler alive, and for good reason. Not many bugs can offer the bugginess, natural mottled color, and insect diversity that the Hare's Ear Nymph imitates. Add a little flashback and this bug will get noticed in off-color water or low light conditions. Fish this pattern with a Pheasant Tail Nymph, or below a Elk Caddis.

The Bird's Nest pattern has been around for decades, and continues to be a part of most anglers fly box.
The Depth Charge Bird's Nest Black takes all of the best of the orignal pattern, and adds a pair of tungsten beads to get the fly deep quickly.
The pattern is considered to be an Attractor Pattern. With the soft hackle tied to the front of the fly, it imitates a struggling mayfly emerging in the water column, and when swing downstream, does well during a caddis hatch.
This is a very versatile fly.

The bead head hare's ear is a time tested pattern that is extremely effective at catching fish. It is versatile in that it imitates a wide variety of underwater bugs. This fly has loose hair around the thorax that simulate the legs of an aquatic insect, and a bead head to help it sink into the zone where the big fish hang out.
