The Dzonot Tarpon Fly comes from the vice of Yucutan Super Slam whisperer Nick Denbow. Interesting tidbit about the name....cenote is derived from the Mayan word Dzonot. A nod to the beautiful geologic caves with water that dot the Yucutan where you can catch Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish, Snook, and a myriad of other species. Tied on a Gama SL12S hook.

Like the Mayan Claw (a mash up of a Strong Arm Crab and a Raghead Crab), this fly utilizes the "arm" of the Strong Arm design. The body, however, is borrowed from the Flex crab. Another evolutionary mash-up that we're likely to wonder how we ever lived without in a few years.

If we ever find ourselves stranded on an island surrounded by redfish (could we be so lucky?!?!), we sure hope that we have a pile of Po Boys and Hopedale Crabs. Arguably, these are the only two redifsh flies needed 80% of the time. This fly is tied on an Ahrex TP650, which has a 26 degree bend. With the eyes placed on top of the shank, this hook acts like a jig hook.

New materials are a big driver of fly design and innovation. Jig off beads (also known as inverting beads) were originally used for nymph patterns. Capt Dave, however, is using these beads to improve saltwater flies. By incorporating the bead into the body of the fly, the fly lands softer and sinks hook (and head) up.
