Cast the Soft Hackle pattern up the river, then let it swing downstream, which lifts the fly upwards in the water. Trout will attack this fly, so hold on!

This is a "go to fly" . I can't count the number of times I've had other fisherman come up to me and ask "What are you using" as I've landed fish, after fish. I've used this fly with great success at Cheeseman Canyon, Deckers and the Frying Pan.. I predominantly use sz16 but have started using sz 18 with great success. At the "Toilet Bowl" where Mysis shrimp are the "go to" fly, there must have been some Caddis in the water, because I was hooking up at a rate of 2 to 1.

When the weather gets cold and the surface action diminishes I turn to this baby to straighten my tippet!

At times the extra action of the soft hackle is the magic that it takes. Make sure to have a selection of soft hackles in your box
Very productive

This fly has been on my line all summer. Sometimes alone, and sometimes in a double-nymph combination. It has helped me catch 20+ trout on more than one morning.
