Catches fish, but not the secret weapon I was expecting

Decent for stocked rainbow trout, but success is not guaranteed. Great for weeding out larger panfish. Surprisingly great for stocked channel catfish after a good rain. Not particularly effective for koi/carp. Overall, a decently well-performing pattern, but not the most effective pattern for most situations.

Not quite as good as the ones I tie - but close enough when the tan caddis are on the water - a must on the evening Missouri River hatches.

Great nymph/wet fly pattern
4
Smith (GA) | October 10th, 2021
Jighead, soft hackle, peacock body, and eye-catching red makes for a great generic nymph pattern. I've caught probably hundreds of trout from both tailwaters and freestone mountain streams on this fly. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is that the red can unravel a little prematurely. Adding a thin layer of clear epoxy over the red butt might prolong the life of the fly.
Note From Store Owner: Thanks for your review and recommendation. We will add glue to the red butt of the fly.

Trout/Panfish

I've had success year round using this for wild trout in mountain streams in the southern Appalachians. The bite seems best with higher and slightly turbid water. This is also, IMO the best nymph for sunfish. Use on a dropper under a fluffy/foamy dry and fish over submerged weeds, thick silt, or leaf strewn bottoms.

Killer winter pattern

This has been very productive on the Poudre River, especially in winter months. Recently tied on in tandem with a fire red SJ worm and that combo worked great...a couple aggressive Browns hit the worm and many took the Poison Tung. Came unraveled after 8 or 10 fish though
